Three large ex-railway 'steamers' maintain the train - boat connection
Windermere Lake Cruises operate the three large ex-railway 'steamers'
Tern, Teal, and Swan dating from 1891, 1936, and 1938 respectively.
They were originally brought by train to Lakeside in kit form, then
assembled on site. They maintain the train - boat connection, originally
established in 1868 by the Furness Railway. They have since passed through
the hands of the LMSR, British Railways, Sealink and the Orient Express
group to their present owners, Windermere Lake Cruises, who also operate
a fleet of launches on the lake.
