In the beautiful woodland surroundings and with a platform view, children of all ages can enjoy this fantastic new park & picnic area, while adults can relax under the leafy canopy.
Why not take a break from your travels and relax in the warm, welcoming and nostalgic surroundings of our licensed ‘Station Restaurant’ just off the platform at Haverthwaite Station. Our home cooked food includes your choice from our hearty Railwayman’s breakfast menu for both large and smaller appetites, freshly made vegetarian soup, along with a selection of lighter bites including our famous platters. Afternoon tea is also a firm favourite with our renowned HUGE scones freshly baked throughout the day.
We are open 7 days a week, 9am – 5pm with last orders for food at 4pm.(Summer Season only)

We are pleased to serve our very own “Fairburn Ale” locally brewed by Ulverston Brewing Company. As a bottled beer this is a great accompaniment to your meal, or to take home in a souvenir gift pack along with a special design pint glass.
We are a family run business who enjoy and take pride in sourcing excellent home grown produce supplied by local people. Butcher Peter Hutchinson of Greenodd supplies all of our meats – Peter makes our now celebrated Fairburn Ale Cumberland sausages. Doug Sanders supplies our free range eggs, milk and cream, and ice-cream comes from ‘English Lakes Ice-Cream’ in Kendal.

We stock traditional books, Bachmann & coal model locomotives as well as souvenirs of your day, and toys for the children. These sit alongside locally made perfumes, cards, handbags, jewellery and many more exciting locally produced arts and crafts.
In our book corner, you can browse through a diverse collection of factual and fictional books, including many on local and railway history and the Lake District, including our own new guide book on the railway, past and present.
We also stock an extensive collection of official “Thomas the Tank Engine” merchandise.
Cross over the foot-bridge from the platform to reach our Picnic area, with a raised view of the whole station you can relax in these scenic surroundings and watch the trains go by.
Take a walk around our large engine shed, where we keep and maintain our collection of steam and diesel locomotives.
