See something spectacular this year at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway with myhotelbreak

27th July 2018

The hotel deals website myhotelbreak recently created a write-up on L & H Railway which you can read about below:

There’s something fantastic about a hotel break when you have interesting amenities and attractions nearby. For our customers who are looking for our Lake District hotel deals, we recommend that you tie in Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway into your itinerary.

Let’s find out more about the attraction…

Situated in the Southern end of Windermere in Leven Valley is Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Immerse yourself in the local history and learn about how the railway line started and its collection of locomotives. The team at L & H have had control of the railway line for nearly 50 years and since then have worked tirelessly to make it what it is today, a must see attraction in the Lake District.

Let’s find out some of the history…

Way back in the 1850’s, the Furness Railway was developed. This was at the height of the industrial revolution. Its main purpose was to transport coal and iron ore deposits around England from the mines in Cumberland and the Furness district.

This was the beginning of an amazing story for Lakeside Railway…

What should I experience?

The Engine Shed: This is a great place to visit where you can see all the locomotives that are stationed here. Both steam and diesel.

The Jubilee Woodland Adventure Playground: Enjoy with all the family. The kids can enjoy platform views in the wonderful wooded surroundings in the new park and picnic area.

Station Tea Room: Open from 9am till 5pm, 7 days a week, relax in the lovely and warm surroundings at the Station Tea Room. Situated just off the platform at Haverthwaite station, you can enjoy several options from the menu such as soups, light bites and the must try Railwayman’s breakfast. Afternoon tea is also on offer to patrons while those adults looking for something different to try we suggest the Fairburn Ale, a local beer which goes as a nice accompaniment.

The Gift Shop: For our guests looking for something memorable to take away with them then stop by the gift shop for an ideal souvenir.  From sweets, jewellery, cards and prints, you’ll find something here. Tons of railway memorabilia such as Bachmann models and toys for the kids too. We suggest the guide book as it gives you an even more in-depth look at the railway from past to present.

We celebrate local attractions and in the Lake District and this is one of them.  Create memories that last at Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway.

Afternoon Tea at Haverthwaite station tea room

23rd April 2018

Set tableWith the popularity of afternoon tea on the increase we thought it would be silly to not have a go for ourselves.

Last year we kicked off with a traditional afternoon tea.

You start your indulgance with tier of sandwich triangles and savoury treats, moving up to a layer of cakes and finishing with homemade fruit scones with jam and clotted cream.

Our focus is always on taste and so far we have certainly had no complaints and when it only costs £7.95 per person you can’t really go wrong.

AFTERNOON TEA PEOPLE

Moving on from the traditional afternoon tea, last winter we introduced our comforting afternoon tea.

Involving a tier of hot yummies- mini burger, scampi & chips, mozzarella & chicken garlic bread and a shot of homemade soup, followed by the usual scrummy cakes and homemade fruit scones.

At a slightly higher price of £8.95 it is still fantastic value. This has been a real hit and something we feel isn’t really done anywhere else.

20180222_094612Our tea’s are served daily between 2pm and 4pm. Ideally we prefer booking 24hrs in advance, but if you give us a ring before 10am on the day you wish to eat, we will in most cases be able to have it ready for you in the afternoon.

Call the Station tea room on 015395 31594 to book yours now! (minimum of 2 people)

These are also available to buy as gift vouchers click here
